Collège des Doyens

Mission

The Collège des Doyens unites the Deans of all Swiss Medical Faculties and Schools, serving as a collective voice for academic and research medicine. Its mission is to strengthen the strategic influence of deans in shaping Swiss health policy and addressing key challenges and opportunities in their area of expertise.

Composition

The Collège is composed of delegates from each medical faculty or school. Faculties or schools offering both a Bachelor’s and a Master’s programme are represented by two delegates, while those offering only one programme are represented by one delegate.

The presidency rotates among deans. A dean is elected until the end of his or her term, reassignment by his or her university, or resignation.

Operational aspects

The Swiss Medical Association (FMH) provides administrative and secretarial support to the Collège.

The Collège’s operational costs are covered by annual contributions from member universities.

Meetings are held three times a year (March, June, November), with additional meetings convened at the request of the president or upon the initiative of a majority of its members.

Decisions

  • Simple decisions are approved by a majority of the delegates present via hand vote. The president acts as tie-breaker.
  • Strategic decisions require a two-thirds majority of the delegates present. The president acts as tie-breaker. Once adopted, these decisions must be communicated to the respective universities.
